Martinmas Lantern Making Workshop

A pop-in lantern making workshop in preparation for the Martinmas Lantern Walk, a celebration of light and darkness marking the passage into the darkest season of the year until solstice.

One week before Martinmas, the community gathers around the children and help them “make” their own lantern [conscience].

Then, on the evening of Martinmas [next Saturday, 11th November], we’ll walk together as far as Dane Park and there the children will walk in darkness, many for their first time, only following the light of the lanterns as we adults watch from a distance.

We will be making lanterns mostly from paper, but all ideas and materials are welcome, especially if reused or recycled.

Entry by donation, also cash or card. Just pop in and make your own lantern.
No need to be a parent, just make sure you bring your inner child!
