Martinmas Lantern Walk

At Martinmas, the community gathers around children and help them “make” their own guiding lantern [conscience]. They then walk in darkness for the first time, only following the light of their lantern and without the proximity of adults, who will be watching from a distance.

We will meet up at 101 Social and walk down Northdown Road as far as Dane Park, singing traditional Martinmas tunes and holding our lanterns.

Grown-ups will stop at the entrance of the park and let the children briefly explore it in darkness, guided by the light of their lanterns. We will al then all head back to and regroup at 101 for cake and hot chocolate, and mulled wine for adults.

Everybody’s welcome to join in. No need to be a parent or a child!
